Colorado’s Public Building Electrification Grant

Funding to offset the cost of high-efficiency building electrification efforts.

 

Funding Overview

Eligibility: Public entities
Amount: $10 million total
Match: 15-25%
Program Length: October 10, 2023 - June 30, 2027
Application rounds: The Request for Applications is closed.

The Public Building Electrification Grant is authorized by House Bill 22-1362 to provide public buildings with funding to explore and implement building system electrification measures and infrastructure upgrades required to support these technologies.

Eligible Applicants

Eligible public entities include:

  • Higher education institutions
  • Municipalities
  • Counties
  • Public school districts
  • State agencies
  • Special districts

Enhanced Incentives

Enhanced incentives are also available for the following applicants:

  • Disproportionately Impacted Communities (DI)
  • Low-Income (LI)
  • Just Transition (JT)

Eligible Project Types

Grantees may use money received through the building electrification for public buildings grant program for the following purposes:

  • An energy audit to determine electrification equipment type and sizing needed for the project. Any energy audit funded by the PBEG grant must follow the guidelines for an ASHRAE Level II Audit or equivalent.
  • The purchase and installation of high-efficiency electric equipment for space heating, water heating, or cooking;
  • Electrical installations and upgrades necessary to support the installation of high-efficiency electric equipment;
  • The purchase and installation of other innovative building heating technologies that will likely achieve equal or lower levels of GHG emissions than high-efficiency heat pumps in 2030 and beyond

How it Works

Colorado’s Public Building Electrification Grant

CEO is not currently accepting applications for this program. Application materials from previous funding rounds are available for reference below.

Step 1.

Download and review all the Application Materials

Step 2.

Contact Brittney Van Curan, who will create and share a designated folder to which your completed application can be uploaded.

Step 3.

An evaluation committee will review and score applications based on pre-defined selection criteria.

Step 4.

CEO will distribute funding as reimbursement for eligible project costs upon completion of projects. 

Only costs incurred after executing a purchase order or contract with the Colorado Energy Office will be reimbursed.
